City face replay after keeper scores added time equaliser

WCFC ONLINE27 Sep 2015 - 09:31

Holbeach United 1 Worcester City 1

City were once again involved in a dramatic FA Cup match after a 1-1 draw at Holbeach United.

With City leading 0-1 going into the 4th minute of added time, Holbeach keeper Ricky Drury went up and scored a dramatic equaliser with an over head kick from the edge of the box. Drury had earlier made a magnificent save to deny Lee Hughes from opening the scoring.

City started with the same line up at Corby Town and despite plenty of possession were unable to create much in the opening half with Holbeach matching their higher graded opponents. Connor Gater came closest in the first half but his tame shot was easily claimed by Drury. At the other end a diving header from Stacey Cartwright was blocked by Alex Gudger.

The second half saw Lee Hughes head over before Drury was brought into action for the first time, making an acrobatic save to deny Lee Hughes' header from an Ashley Vincent cross.

Holbeach had a great opportunity to go ahead when Ollie Gale was put clean through by Gary King, but with the goal at his mercy shot straight at an advancing James Severn.

City then struck back with an opening goal. After winning a throw deep in the Holbeach half, Sam Minihan crossed to be met by Lee Hughes who got above his marker heading back across the goal to give City the lead.

Shaun Harrad was then put through after a Lee Hughes flick on but his shot was dragged wide. At the other end another header from Cartwright was blocked.

With time running out, Holbeach won a free kick midway in the City half which was whipped in by Andrew Todswell to be met by Ollie Pinner whose header beat James Severn. With the crowd and players celebrating, the goal was disallowed for offside.

City had another chance after good work from substitute Tristian Dunkley down the left wing set up Connor Gater, but his side footed shot went wide.

With City running the clock down in added time, Holbeach broke out and were awarded a free kick just inside the City half after Tom Gosling was brought down by Ellis Deeney.

From the resulting free kick, a moment of FA Cup magic was to come. Todswell again hit a free kick into the City box which was met on the edge of the box by goalkeeper Drury who finished in the bottom left hand corner with an overhead kick.

It was a moment of Cup magic and was literally the last kick of the game forcing a replay at Aggborough.
