City's FA Cup run ended as Sheffield United ran out 3-0 winner at Bramall Lane.
Backed by a vocal travelling support of 2,000 supporters City got off to a good start, frustrating their League 1 opponents. Ashley Vincent was first to produce a chance for City, shooting from 25 yards out but his effort was pushed over the bar by Blades Keeper George Long.
City were on top and it was 15 minutes before the Home side had their first chance, with Jose Baxter firing well wide. The Blades started to get more into the game and they were rewarded soon after as Sam Minihan brought Che Adams down in the box giving away a penalty. Jose Baxter stepped up to take the kick and although City keeper Nathan Vaughan guessed the right way, he was unable to make a save, giving the Blades a 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later Jamal Campbell-Ryce could have added a second but Vaughan tipped his shot over the bar. Vaughan was again called into make a save this time from Conor Sammon.
Deon Burton had two long range efforts for City towards the end of the half, one saved by Long, the other going over the bar.
The second half was much the same with City keeping possession but unable to create any real chances and relying on Nathan Vaughan to be on top form as he was again called upon to make a terrific save this time from Steffan Scougall.
City's best chance of the game came a minute later as substitute Tristian Dunkley and Deon Burton both failed to get on the end of a cross from Daniel Nti.
On 72 minutes, United nearly added a second with a free kick from Bob Harris which hit the bar and bounced back off Vaughan going out for a corner.
Ten minutes later The Blades finally added a second. Campbell-Ryce got down to the goal line on the right, crossing to the free Conor Sammon who finished from a yard out.
With City doing their best to pull a goal back, United finally added a third. Kieron Freeman playing a one-two with Scougall who appeared to be in an offside position as he received the ball, but with both teams expecting an offside flag, none came and the goal stood.
The 2014/15 FA Cup campaign finally comes to an end after six games and City's performance was honoured by the Sheffield United players who stood and applauded every City player off the pitch after they had been over to thank the magnificent travelling support.
