"Studley blown away"

City travelled to Studley on Tuesday night looking for progression in the League Cup against Division One outfit, Studley Town.

New signing Harry Clark was given a starting place in what was a very much changed side from the game against Walsall Wood at the weekend where only Tom Fishwick and Jamal Lawrence kept their starting spots.

An even start to the game came to life in the 15th minute when a Simon Fitter free kick for Studley flew over the City wall but clipped the outside of the post. Fitter known for his free kick scoring down the years with many brilliant ones in his days for Evesham United when they groundshare St Georges Lane.

This seemed to wake City up and in the 23rd minute the hard work of frontman, James Lemon, paid off has he closed down the central defender of Studley, the ball rebounding into his path and he ran through and slotted the ball right footed past the Studley keeper.

Minutes later it seemed as though it would be one of those nights, a ball through between Fishwick and Stoddart had the latter chasing after the ball with the Studley frontman behind him, in a bizarre turn of events the Studley man fell behind Stoddart and clipped him taking them both down to the floor. Free Kick to City ? Not according to the Referee who brandished the Red Card to Stoddart.

So what next for City, would Studley go on to take control and win the game.

Straight away the Management Team made the change, Forsyth on for Lawrence to help strengthen the backline.

City had another chance fall their way with James Lemon picking the ball up 30 yards from goal, running at the defence and shifted the ball onto his right foot, struck with venom but a deflection off a defender see's the ball strike the post.

This is Worcester City and you never know what they are going to do during 90 minutes, with many supporters fearing a collapse and a Studley win, a free kick on 45 minutes was floated into the box, Forsyth just nudges the ball on but it appeared to be going wide but a healthy deflection of a Studley man and the ball ends up in the net....2 v 0 to City as the whistle for HT goes and the pressure has lifted.

Onto the second half and City came out with confidence and looking like they still had 11 men. Every player working hard to close down when they didn't have the ball and defend in numbers reducing Studley to two half chances which were blazed over the bar.

On 62 minutes it was all over. Ethan Moran picked the ball up just inside the Studley half and ran at their defence, with Lemon in front of him, Basford out to the left and Clark to the right suddenly City were 4 on 3. Moran then see's a darting run by Lemon, he slides the ball in between the two defenders and there was Lemon to swing the left boot and place the ball past the Studley keeper.

From there City never looked back and on 74 minutes a sublime free kick by George Forsyth made it 4 - 0. Beckham like some might say, up and over the wall and into the corner of the net and out of the reach of the keeper.

86 minutes on the clock and the hardworking Aaron Basford finally got what he deserved. Running up the left wing he cut inside his man, and on the edge of the box unleashed a fantastic strike into the top right hand corner of the net.

City could have had more with chances falling to Moran and Walker but 5 v 0 is how it ended and City move onto the next round with a home tie against Premier outfit, Romulus. That game to be played at Pershore Town FC.
