City are through to the 4th Round of the FA Vase after an extra time winner from Luke English. City had to dig deep after being reduced to 10 men after 57 minutes when Kurtis Mewies was shown a second yellow card.
It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for City after Shepshed scored with just 35 seconds on the clock. With City straight on the offensive from the kick off, the visitors won the ball deep in their own half and they switched quickly to the right to John King who drove forward before putting Matt Melbourne clear who fired home an acute angle 12 yards out to make it 0-1.
After that is was pretty much a war of attrition with City edging possession but unable to break through a steadfast defence. Shepshed had two very decent chances which were saved well by Dan Jezeph whilst City saw Liam Lockett going close with a free kick 25 yards out which was tipped round the post by Matty White. However deep into added time in the first half, City won a free kick for offside on the edge of their own box which was thumped forward by Dan Jezeph. The ball looked like it was going straight out at the other end but Sean Brain beat Reif Armstrong to it and crossed back into Chris Withington who finished from close range to make it 1-1.
The second half was much the same but things took a turn for the worse for City after Kurtis Mewies was shown a second yellow for tugging back Hurst on the edge of the box. From the resulting free kick Dan Jezeph was once again called on to tip the ball over from a goal bound effort from Hurst. City then sat back but comfortably soaked up pressure from the visitors who were unable to make their extra man advantage count and City continually frustrated them by being first to almost every ball with Craig Jones in control for City.
Two minutes before the end of the first period of extra time City won a corner which was whipped in by Liam Lockett. The visitors cleared to wide on their right which was picked back up by Lockett who crossed back deep into the box. Dynamo headed clear but straight into the path of Luke English who steamed in to hit an unstoppable volley straight through keeper Matty White to make it 2-1
Dynamos then laid siege in City's half but their best chance came with seconds left in added time. With their whole team including the keeper encamped in City's half a lofted ball to City's back post looked certain to be headed home by John King but City sub Jamie Smith got to the ball first to head clear.
City move into the last 32 and the fourth round which will be in January & it is the first time City have gone into the new year in an FA Competition since 2000.
