City forced a replay in the FA VASE Fifth Round after a 1-1 draw (after extra time) at a noisy Mark Webster Community Stadium.
Cheered on by a large travelling support a 70th minute close range strike from Marco Adaggio cancelled out an Atherstone goal from Josh Ruff in the first half.
City started quickly with an early long range effort from Liam Lockett then minutes later a Marco Adaggio half volley was tipped round the post by Atherstone keeper Carl O'Neill.
The home sides first real chance didn't come until 30 minutes when a shot from Sam Belcher was saved by Dan Jezeph. Then City had a golden opportunity when Sean Brain was sent clear, he rounded the Atherstone keeper on the edge of the box whose slight touch forced Brain wide and rather than taking a shot tried to walk the ball in only to be swallowed up by quickly returning defenders.
Just before the break Atherstone took the lead. A through ball from Belcher to Josh Ruff on the far right of the box didn't look like it was going anywhere, but despite surrounded by three City players was able to get a shot away, which took a deflection off Jamie Smith and looped over Dan Jezeph into the net.
City made two changes at the break with Jamie Smith and Luke Rowe being replaced by Dan Okojie and Jordan Harrison and went back on the front foot.
Keeper O'Neill received a yellow card after colliding with Marco Adaggio on the edge of the box and from the resulting free kick, tipped Liam Lockett's low drive around the post.
On 70 minutes City drew level. A long throw by Luke English was headed on by Jordan Harrison then headed to the edge of the box by Adders striker Joe Oji straight into the path of Liam Lockett, whose volley was parried away into the path of Marco Adaggio who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
City were reduced to 10 men on 85 minutes when Kurtis Mewies was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle but the home side were unable to take advantage.
There were few chances in the first period of extra time, Sean Brain's low drive was saved by O'Neill whist Ryan Quinn was put through on the City goal only to be deprived by an excellent tackle from Dan Okojie. Then in the second period there was little from either side forcing a replay at The Victoria Ground on Wednesday 12th February.
