City are out of the FA Vase after letting a two goal lead slip in the final six minutes. A returning Demetri Brown looked set to have put City through to the third round only for the hosts to pull two back before a taking the win with a dramatic ending coming from a fabulous strike from 35 yards out by Liam Canavan.
As well as a returning Demetri Brown, new signing Ben Birch came straight into the side in the centre of defence. After a scrappy opening on a heavy pitch City had the better of the first half play with Dynamo keeper Matthew White pulling off two great saves to deny City. The first came from Aaron Birch on 22 minutes who was set up on the right by Andy Nicol, but his goal bound shot into the bottom corner was tipped round the post by White. Then on 29 minutes a goal bound volley from Jamie Smith from outside the box on the left looked to be looping in only for White to bravely push the ball over, crashing into the post in the process.
Shepshed's best chance of the first half came on 38 minutes after a well worked move which saw Liam Canavan set up Matthew Melbourne who looked set to score from 8 yards out only for Craig Jones to get a crucial touch to force a corner.
On 52 minutes Demetri Brown was put through by Aaron Roberts only for Jordan Wakeling to make fabulous last ditch tackle to deny City an opener. On 72 minutes City finally took the lead. A long ball out to the left by Craig Jones to substitute Dave Reynolds who took a touch before crossing to an incoming Demetri Brown who finished from the six yards line.
The hosts were unlucky not to pull one back on 75 minutes when a thunderous free kick from Liam Canavan 35 yards out crashed into the bar leaving Dan Jezeph stranded.
With 8 minutes left City looked to have sealed the win. With Dynamo pushing forward Dave Reynolds looped the ball over the high line of defenders on the half way line into the path of Demetri Brown who still had plenty to do, but his composure on the ball saw him beat the retreating defenders before a left foot finish from just inside the box.
It proved to be the last touch for Brown who was substituted for a straight swap with Brain coming on rather than opting for a defensive midfielder. Within a minute Shepshed pulled one back. Ben Birch who had a great game made his only mistake of the day but it was punished as John King finished a move on the right to make it 1-2.
On 89 minutes it got worse for City as a cross from the left fell into the path of Shay Brennan who finished from a yard out despite appeals for hand ball from the City defenders.
Then deep into injury time and with penalties looming, the final nail was driven into City's coffin as Shepshed clinched a dramatic winner. Aaron Birch gave away a free kick on the half way line which was launched into the box by Canavan, however the ball was cleared straight back into his path and he hammered the ball home on the half volley from 35 yards out into the top left hand corner.
