City are through to the First Round of the FA VASE after overcoming Bilston Town at Claines Lane in this Second Qualifying Round tie.
City welcomed Dimitri Dunkley who signed on from Bilston before the game and after overcoming their early nervous start where they gave the ball away far too easily the visitors finished the half in the ascendancy.
The Bilston nervy start saw them gift City with two half chances for Josh Schuck who got off two efforts from long range, neither of which troubled the visiting keeper. Dan Westwood then forced the keeper into a good save after getting a shot off on the volley from wide on the left. On 26 minutes the game turned around. Bilston won a throw-in deep on City's right before switching the ball across field and moving the ball into the box before getting a cross into Garmson who nipped in between City's defenders to make it 1-0.
Two minutes later the visitors had a golden opportunity to go 2-0 up. City won a corner which was cleared to their attacking full back who burst down the right out pacing Sam Hall before getting his shot off past the advancing Brendon Bunn only for the ball to go inches wide of the post.
There were two chances on the stroke of half time for City, the first when Fortune Maphosa's deep ball into the box was pulled back by Callum Debar to Dan Westwood whose acrobatic shot was saved to force a corner. The resulting in swinging kick from Jamie Smith was flicked into the path of Aaron Roberts who was coming in deep on the back post, but he could only hit the side netting.
The second half saw City race out of the blocks and within a minute had forced a free kick wide on the left which was whipped in by James Douglas. The ball missed everyone but was glanced in at the far post by Josh Schuck to score his first goal for the club to make it 1-1. Within a minute City forced another great chance. A long ball played in by Maphosa was flicked on by Schuck to Jamie Smith whose pull back fell to Chris Sterling, his overhead kick just going wide of the post.
City made an attacking change on 62 minutes with Sam Hall being replaced by Archie Muirhead and within seconds it was 2-1.Another free kick played in deep was pulled back across the goal for Aaron Roberts to lift the ball back to Dan Westwood who headed home from three yards.
Minutes later the game was effectively over. City forced another corner which was again whipped in by Douglas into the incoming Aaron Roberts who forced the ball over the line from close range to make it 3-1.
City had further chances as the visitors heads dropped but Bilston finished the game with an opportunity to pull one back but fired high over the bar.
