Third time is hopefully the charm this Saturday as City return to cup action as we make the long trip to Boston Town in the Third Round of the Isuzu FA Vase, following the two postponements in successive weeks at Claines Lane.
It's another quick turnaround after Tuesday's 1-1 draw in the Hellenic League away at Fairford Town, the first points dropped away from home of the season, as Chris Cornes' side look to continue fighting on four fronts.
City will be without skipper Adam Mace on Saturday as he faces a suspension in this competition. Fans will also be hoping that Connor Gater may return from injury after coming off in the away victory over Highworth Town, in time for the upcoming festive schedule. Tuesday evening kicked off a period of 10 games in 29 days for City.
Our now hosts on Saturday afternoon, Boston Town, play their league football in the United Counties Premier Division North, the same league as Sherwood Colliery, our hosts in the FA Cup earlier this season, and Sleaford Town, who we beat in the First Round at the end of October. They currently sit in 13th position out of 18 in the table, and have won two out of the last ten games in all competitions. Boston won't have played in three full weeks by kick off on Saturday, whilst City have faced midweek matches in that time.
Boston made it through to the Third Round after beating Stone Old Alleynians on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in normal time. In their last match on Saturday, they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Wisbech Town in the United Counties League.
Top scorer Liam Adams will likely be one to watch for the City, currently on nine for the season, including a brace in their First Round Proper victory over Ingles.
City will no doubt be confident in their own front line, though, with Liam Lockett on 20 goals for the season in all competitions, and Kyle Belmonte and Jamie Insall not far behind on 17 and 16 respectively. Cornes' Entertainers will be looking to continue their recent goalscoring form with another positive result on Saturday.
Saturday's tie will be played at the Mortgages For You Stadium, Tattershall Road, Boston, PE21 9LR. There is car parking at the ground, but also additional parking at Witham Way Country Park. Cadent Gas are currently carrying out works on Tattershall Road with temporary traffic lights in place.
Tickets are priced at £7 for Adults and £5 for Concessions, with under 16's free with a full paying adult.
