A 7-0 rout of Roman Glass St George seemed like the perfect tune-up for City on Wednesday night at Sixways, ahead of Saturday's bumper crowd and huge FA Vase Semi Final tie with Great Wakering Rovers.
The match which would culminate in City's twenty-second win in a row in all competitions seemed a tougher test on paper originally, particularly after a tough 'home' fixture with Roman Glass that was played at Malvern Town in the Wiseman Final First Leg last month. But the fixture actually reverted in style to the second leg, with the Bristol side having brief periods on top, but with City very much in the driving seat for the majority of the game. Kyle Belmonte netted another hat-trick to take his seasonal tally to 38, on the night he also received the Goal of the Month Award from February for his nonchalant chip against Stourport Swifts.
Great Wakering had been on a run of four defeats in a row until a 3-1 win versus Frenford FC on Tuesday night. Anthony Martin got two goals in that one, whilst Callum Boylan appears to be their main source of goals this season, currently on 24 for the campaign. Great Wakering currently sit in 11th place in the Essex Senior Football League, but still have nine games remaining in the league to see out the season, including fixtures on Tuesday and Thursday before next Saturday's second leg.
City's incredible recent record showed no sign of slowing down on Wednesday night at Sixways, and Chris Cornes' side will want to keep that run going in front of a big crowd at Sixways. As of Thursday evening, 2,500 tickets in total had been purchased.
In addition to Belmonte's treble on Wednesday, Evans, Lockett, Lymn and Hart were also on target, showcasing the sheer breadth of goalscoring potential in the side. Kirk Layton was voted as Man of the Match by our Match Sponsors on the evening, Nicol & Co, for another impressive display in the heart of defence.
Saturday's FA Vase Semi Final is sponsored by Worcester City Bathrooms, and all at WCFC would like to thank Steve, Rich, and all of the team for their continued support of the football club, and we hope that they enjoy their day with us.
Saturday's tie will now be played at Sixways Stadium. Match Tickets and Car Parking passes MUST be purchased in advance and can be done so here. Match VIP/Hospitality tickets are also available via the same link for a three course meal and balcony seating on the day.
