Saturday afternoon will see Worcester City will travel to Steel Park to play Corby Town in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division play-off final.
With a win apiece during the regular season, there is nothing between the two sides. Corby were 2-0 winners the last time the teams met at Steel Park, but City have the most recent win, coming in a remarkable 4-3 triumph only a couple of weeks ago. The Blue and Whites showed that they can breach the Corby defence, while their last two wins showed their defensive solidity, with their final league game and the play-off semi-final win against Anstey Nomads being 2-0 shutouts.
It is no secret that Corby Town will be an incredibly tough test, as they finished the league in 2nd position on 85 points, only being bettered by the winners, Quorn. They were in imperious form to end their league season, winning four of their last five and scoring 4 goals in each of those wins. Chris Cornes’ men can take encouragement from being the team that defeated them during that run.
To reach the final, Corby overcame Long Eaton United on Tuesday evening, with a 1-0 victory at Steel Park, with 1500 spectators in attendance.
A win for City would not only be the perfect send-off for Club captain Adam Mace, who will retire following the game, but would also see the Club to remarkable back-to-back promotions and a rise into step 3 of the football pyramid.
