City made it win number 13 in the Vanarama Conference North after a 2-0 win over Gainsborough Trinity.

It wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination, but with injuries throughout the squad Anthony Charles was brought in to the centre of defence.

City got off to a perfect start. After winning a free kick just inside the Trinity half in the third minute, Anthony Charles delivered a ball into the box which fell at the feet of Tristan Dunkley who shot past the stranded Rory Watson.

Within a minute it could have been two. Good work from Sean Geddes and Daniel Nti down the right flank saw Nti deliver a cross in to Tristan Dunkley whose header was cleared off the line by Jake Picton.

After the bright opening start, Trinity came back into the game and had a series of half chances. Sixteen minutes in Picton headed a corner over. Trinity followed up with another four corners but City defended well.

On the half hour mark City broke out and Danny Jackman whipped in a cross which evaded both Dean Waldron and Tristan Dunkley.

On 37 minutes City thought it was 2-0. Sean Geddes put Daniel Nti clean through on the left flank and Nti took the ball to the edge of the box to calmly finish past Watson, however the goal was cancelled out after the linesman adjudged Nti to be offside.

On the stroke of half time City won their first corner which was whipped in by Sean Geddes but comfortably claimed by Watson.

The second half was much of the same with both sides having plenty of the ball. Sean Geddes shot wide for City after a great ball from Ellis Deeney was helped on by Tristan Dunkley.

On 61 minutes it was nearly another classic moment for City's great season. Ryan Boot's huge kick from his hands bounced on the edge of the Trinity box which was claimed inside the six yards box, which was followed up a minute later with the same, this time the ball bouncing wide!

A Sean Geddes free kick was pulled narrowly wide on 63 minutes just before City's one & only substitution of the game with Micah Evans coming on for Dean Waldron who had picked up a knock.

Gainsborough tried to force the issue with two substitutions of their own but a minute later City had another golden opportunity. More great work from Tristan Dunkley created an opportunity for Daniel Nti who couldn't divert the ball into the goal.

Gainsborough's best chance of the game came on 85 minutes when Hamish Watson shot inches wide across the goal. Two minutes later another chance arose for Trinity after they forced another corner. Ryan Boot was unable to hold onto the cross and Picton could only shoot high over the bar.

Gainsborough made a third change in the first of three added minutes but it was City who sealed the points in the third minute of added time. Tristan Dunkley again broke down the left wing crossing to Daniel Nti whose shot was saved but diverted into the path of Micah Evans who made no mistake from close range.

A welcome three points to keep City in 10th position
