As the sun set behind the Malvern Hills on the horizon at Claines Lane, Worcester City saw off Haughmond 6-0, with a dominant second half performance on Tuesday evening.

The first half started with both teams feeling their way in to the game, with Haughmond creating the better chances and starting the brighter of the two. Harvey Lewis’ effort in the 4th minute, and Harry Morris's shot in the 17th minute were the best early chances Haughmond were able to create. Both were dealt with by City’s Josh Schuck and Adam Harrison respectively.

City grew into the game as the first half progressed, with George Baker creating multiple chances for his teammates playing as a right wing-back. The best of them came in the 31st minute when he found Reiss Taylor-Randle making a run behind the Haughmond defence. Taylor-Randle went down in the box after contact with a defender, but the referee was not interested in his appeals.

The only goal of the first half came just five minutes before half time, when a quick counterattack by City, after a Haughmond corner, left them vulnerable. Will Gibbons’ cross from the by-line found the head of Demetri Brown, who nodded the ball into the bottom right corner.

Haughmond kept up the pressure for the rest of the first half and only through great saves by City goalkeeper Adam Harrison, they remained up at the half.

The second half was very much dominated by City from the start to the finish. The second goal of the game came in the 48th minute after Bailey Fuller found himself space to dribble forward. He found Demetri Brown through, who placed the shot into the Haughmond net.

The third goal came just minutes later. In the 52nd minute, George Baker used skill to dribble around a Haughmond defender and found striker Will Gibbons in the box with a low cross, who only needed a tap to score.

The fourth was again just moments later, when, once again, George Baker dribbled around the defender and found Gibbons in the box. This time his shot was blocked out for a corner. The delivery by Bailey Fuller dropped into the middle of the penalty area, and from the pile of players emerged Demetri Brown to head home his hat-trick.

Another corner in the 61st minute found the head of City captain Aaron Roberts at the far post to make it 5-0.

City wrapped up the scoring just before extra time. Substitute, Archie Muirhead was able to save the ball from a goal kick and found Demetri Brown all alone in the box. He finished, grabbing himself four goals, and six for City on the night.

Tuesday’s win lifted City into fourth place in the league, leapfrogging Lichfield City. The Blue And Whites look to keep the good performances going when they travel away to Stourport Swifts on Saturday - 3pm.
