City will look to make it five wins in a row in the league when they host bottom of the table Wantage Town at Claines Lane on Saturday afternoon.
After an assured midweek victory over Hereford Pegasus, a game in which the home side should really have won by a much greater margin than two goals, it's yet another home fixture this weekend and a chance to keep up to pressure at the top of the table.
Following important contributions from the bench in recent weeks, Elliott Hartley was given the opportunity to start on Tuesday night and grasped the opportunity with both hands, scoring the third goal to secure three points, and in doing so scoring his fifth goal of the season. Liam Lockett was voted as man of the match by our match sponsors on the evening Jark Recruitment, which was his eighth of the season, tying him with Jamie Insall at the top of the City charts. Our other goalscorer on Tuesday, Kyle Belmonte, is himself on seven goals.
Striker Dylan Hart made his return to the starting side on Tuesday evening to lead the City line in the absence of Kyonn Evans. He was replaced n the hour as he re-builds his match fitness ahead of another busy month in October for the team.
City's back line have looked immovable recently as Stoddart, Mace, Layton and Keightley have looked a real unit. In attack, however, Cornes has an abundance of riches and it will be interesting to see which three he picks to lead the line with Hart, Lockett, Hartley, Reid and Insall all vying for three starting places.
It remains to be seen whether Connor Gater will be fit to return for this one having missed the last four games in all competitions, since being substituted in the first half against Thornbury Town.
Our visitors to Claines Lane, Wantage Town, currently find themselves rock bottom of the Hellenic Premier League after starting the campaign with nine straight league defeats. They have however managed to record wins in various cup competitions since the start of the season, and are still in the FA Vase alongside City. They beat Wokingham & Emmbrook last weekend 1-0 to secure their spot in the next round.
Our match sponsors for this fixture are Peopleton Press. Many of you will have enjoyed a Peopleton Press cider at our home game since the start of this season. They are proud and passionate about craft cider and will be set up at a tasting table in the top car park on Saturday so our supporters can sample their fantastic cider, and also purchase gift sets to take home at the end of the game. Come down and see them from 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon!
