Match Preview by Lewis Howarth
Sixways Stadium will host City versus Roman Glass St George tonight in the Hellenic Premier Division, which will be the fourth time this season in all competitions that the two teams have met. City sit on top of the table heading into their last seven league games of the season, and is a huge game tonight for City as a win would mean they will be just three points from the league title and guaranteed promotion.
City will be feeling confident tonight after beating Roman Glass in all three previous encounters this season so far, including beating them twice in the two leg Wiseman Lighting Cup final last month, giving City their first trophy of the season.
In terms of form, City couldn’t be playing Roman Glass at a better time. They have lost five out of their last six games in all competitions and are fresh from a 3-0 defeat at home to Hereford Pegasus on Good Friday.
If Roman Glass are to come away with the three points, Charlie Saunders has proving to be a threat over the last few games. He has netted twice in his last three games, being the only goalscorer for Roman Glass in that time. Shea Mannings is Roman Glass’s top goal scorer this season and netted another goal in their 4-2 win over Mangotsfield United two weeks ago. For City, goals seem to be coming from almost everybody with City having seven different goalscorers on the scoresheet in their last five games, coming from Belmonte, Reid, Hart, Lockett, Lymn, Dinsley, and Hartley, in that time scoring sixteen goals and conceding just six.
This game is also significant because it will be City’s first home game coming off the back of five consecutive away games. With a great turnout expected at Sixways, The Faithful in attendance will be backing the City boys for a final push heading into the final two months of the season with all trophies still to play for.
The last time City played at Sixways was in February. A heroic comeback from City finished off spectacularly with a long range Jordan Lymn effort in the 112th minute ensured City were victorious over Longlevens. This of course was a win that has continued City’s historic and record breaking winning streak, a streak that is now twenty-one consecutive games won, dating all the way back to New Year’s Day with a 3-0 win over Highworth Town.
