The Blue And Whites fell to defeat on Tuesday evening at the Guardian Warehousing Arena in Northern Premier League Midlands action.
City started like a house on fire, with shots peppering the Khalsa net, without calling the keeper into action. It took until the 33rd minute when Kyle Belmonte picked the ball up and slid a defence-splitting ball through to Taylor Townsend, who poked the ball past the rushing Khalsa keeper. The winger wheeled off in celebration.
The lead was then doubled 10 minutes later. Belmonte gathered the ball in the centre circle and took strike. The ball sailed through the air, over the keeper, bouncing 5 yards out and settling in the back of the net. It was an audacious effort that was met with amazement and praise by the traveling faithful. It is certain to be one of the goals of the season.
Before City could settle, the hosts pulled one back just a minute later. Todd Ferrier's run from deep wasn't tracked, and the Khalsa man nudged the ball past Haydn Whitcombe.
The second half continued at a rapid pace, with City looking the sharper and more likely to score. Chances came and went, as Khalsa stood strong, and it was the hosts who scored next against the run of play, completing the comeback. City struggled to clear before the ball fell to Jayden Cambell. His low effort took a deflection, beating Whitcombe low to his left.
The equaliser set up a wild closing stage, with both teams looking for a winner. A misplaced pass in the centre of the park left City wide open, with Simeon Cobourne played in. The Khalsa man stayed composed, slotting the winner home in the 2nd minute of injury time.
