The Blue and Whites made the 330-mile round-trip to Suffolk but came away empty-handed for the first time this season.
An early strike from Jamie McGrath in the 8th minute proved decisive, as City struggled to make a real impact in the attacking third. The visitors’ best chance fell to Liam Lockett, who delivered a teasing ball into the box. Dan Sweeney fought hard to get on the end of it, but the Needham goalkeeper reacted well to keep the effort from crossing the line.
In the second half, City were kept at bay by a resolute Needham defence, who absorbed pressure efficiently and remained a threat on the counter.
At the back, City’s trio of Shay Palmer, Spencer Hamilton, and Hayden Reeves, alongside on-loan goalkeeper Jack Thompson, put in a strong performance, limiting the hosts to just the single goal.
With no midweek fixture, Chris Cornes’ side will turn their attention to a double training session this week, ahead of Saturday’s home league clash against Bury Town at Sixways Stadium. The squad will be looking to bounce back and secure their first three points of the season.
