Worcester City fell to an unlucky defeat against top of the table side Harborough Town at Sixways on Saturday.
The visitors got off to a quick start when Alex Morris’ lofted ball into the area was almost met by the head of captain Connor Kennedy as Harborough looked to continue their unbeaten run in the league.
Harborough had another effort to take the lead just shy of the ten minute mark when forward David Kamara’s shot flew wide of the post, keeping the contest level.
Twenty minutes in and Harborough continued to apply pressure, although Worcester started to gain a foothold in the fixture and forced set plays when possible.
City earned a corner on the half hour mark after defending another spell of Harborough pressure and a close call involving Kamara once again.
Some controversial decision making by the officials thirty five minutes in eventually allowed City the chance for another corner as Worcester looked to push for the opening goal.
In first half added time, Harborough made their possession count as captain Connor Kennedy put the away side into the lead heading into half time.
Five minutes into the second half, City pulled level after an outrageous effort from the edge of the box by substitute Harry Burns. After the goal, possession swung largely in City’s favour as Worcester pushed for the lead.
With twenty minutes remaining, Riley O’Sullivan was in the right place to slot in a pass from the byline and put Harborough back in front against the run of play, despite the visitors being on the backfoot for much of the second half.
Worcester stayed in the fight for a second equaliser of the afternoon but Harborough’s defence held strong.
Despite City’s resilience against one of the best sides in the division, it wasn’t enough, and the game concluded with Harborough taking all three points.
Worcester City are back in action on Tuesday 25th November when they travel to Alvechurch for the second time this season, this time in the Southern League Premier Central.
