Worcester City earned a crucial three points with a 2-1 comeback win against Barwell at Sixways on Saturday afternoon.
Inside the opening fifteen minutes, the visitors took the lead when Anthony Dwyer went one-on-one with Sam Kane and beat the keeper, leaving City a goal down early on.
As the half progressed, Barwell continued to be on the offensive and looked to double their advantage in the first half of the contest.
City’s first chance of the game fell to defender Charlie Wise, whose shot from the edge of the area flew over the bar as City remained a goal down midway through the first half.
Charlie Lutz did get a deserved leveller for City when he fired a shot low into the bottom far left corner in off the post, as City looked to push on and take the lead.
Another chance came for City when a corner into the area was tipped over the bar by the keeper after a flick-on from Dan Sweeney, as the sides went in at half time level at 1-1.
It was a solid start from City in the opening stages of the second half, with both Josh Bailey and Charlie Lutz having chances to try and give Worcester the lead.
Captain Paul Downing then put Worcester ahead after a great ball into the area from a corner was met by his header at the back post to give City a well-deserved lead.
City looked energised following the goal and pushed for a third to try and kill off the contest.
Sam Kane made a great save with twenty minutes to go to keep City ahead after some pinball action in the area.
Dan Sweeney then had a great chance to seal the game when the striker drove forward with the ball and laid it off to Lutz, who dragged his effort wide of an empty net.
As the game entered added time, Barwell pushed for a late equaliser, pressing the City defence as Worcester looked to hold on for a crucial victory.
Barwell came close to levelling, but the game ended with City taking a vital three points.
Worcester City will be back in action on Tuesday with a visit to Real Bedford in the Southern League Premier Central, as City look to make it back-to-back wins.
