Worcester City fell to a late 2-1 defeat away at Kettering Town at Latimer Park on Saturday afternoon in the Southern League Premier Central.
The opening few minutes were end to end, with both sides having a corner early on. However, it was Harry Burns’ header which opened the scoring for Worcester City after a pinpoint cross from Liam Lockett found the forward unmarked to give City an early lead.
Worcester almost doubled their lead when Harry Burns struck the ball from a wide position, but it was firmly caught by goalkeeper Paul White.
Kettering did equalise on the twenty-minute mark when Edward Panter was left unmarked on the edge of the area and fired a shot into the bottom corner to level the contest at Latimer Park.
A great five-minute spell of play from City gave them the chance to work the ball into the area and look to retake the lead, as the hosts struggled to clear their lines.
Very few chances occurred during the rest of the half, but City continued to press and push for a second against a strong Kettering defence as the half-time whistle blew with the score at 1-1.
The second half started with Worcester in control as City looked to retake the lead against play-off contenders Kettering Town.
Very little occurred for either team until the 75th minute when Kettering’s Ismael Fatadjo broke away from City’s defence but was denied by a great save from Worcester keeper Sam Kane.
The hosts again came close to taking the lead when a bobbling ball was cleared off the line by Charlie Wise to keep the game level with ten minutes remaining.
As the game ticked in to stoppage time, and looked to be heading to a stalemate, it was the hosts who won it in added time when Blaine Rowe converted from a corner to take all three points.
Worcester City will play host to St Ives Town next Saturday at Sixways Stadium in the Southern League Premier Central.
