City got off to a winning "home" League start for the 2019/20 Season with a 1-0 victory over South Normanton Athletic.
After Saturdays 4-3 defeat away at Newark Flowserve, City were keen to make amends in front of a 260 crowd at The Victoria Ground and their intentions were clear from the start after forcing a corner in the first minute, which was cleared after a goalmouth scramble.
City dominated early possession with Aaron Birch, Chris Withington and Liam Lockett spreading balls for Jordan Harrison and Demetri Brown to run onto but it was the visitors who had the first clear cut chance when Garnett set up Hanslow from close range but his shot went inches wide of the post.
City's goal came in the 29th minute when Aaron Birch spread the ball wide in the box to Demetri Brown, whose low cross was flicked on by Birch into the path of Jordan Harrison who poked home from close range.
City's keeper Tedd Cann was not called upon anywhere near as much as he was in the opening game at Newark, but when needed looked confident beyond his years.
The visitors did all they could in the final 20 minutes to draw level and the closest they came was from a sloppy free-kick given away on the edge of the box. The well worked set piece fell to Hanslow on the six yard line and his deflected shot went wide of Cann's post when he should have done better. City dug in and coped well with the pressure, breaking out on several occasions with the closest effort coming from Tryreece Ruddock whose shot from the edge of the box was easily gathered.
The final few minutes of added time were well managed by City to claim all three points.
