Liam Lockett stole the show as City beat a resolute Haughmond in this Boxing Day fixture. He was key to all three goals, setting two up and scoring one as City won 3-1 at the Victoria Ground.
The first goal came within 4 minutes, Dan Okojie's ball from the left found Lockett in the centre and his pin point ball found Demetri Brown on the edge of the box, his turn was too quick for the defender and he smashed home from just inside the box.
For a spell it looked like it could be another high scoring day for City as shot after shot rained down on the visitors goal, but they drew level on 26 minutes. Kurtis Mewies was adjudged to have fouled deep on the left and it was to get worse for Mewies as he then headed the ensuing free kick from Reece Taylor over Dan Jezeph to make it 1-1.
The visitors then had a decent spell before being reduced to 10 men in the 34th minute. Carl Rodgers long throw into the City box found Taylor on the edge and his goal bound shot was cleared by Craig Jones to Liam Lockett, whose 40 yard ball deep into the Haughmond half found Sean Brain who was pulled back 30 yards out by Jack Griffiths. He was then was then shown a straight red card.
The second half saw a Liam Lockett goal disallowed for offside and a Craig Jones header cleared off the line before the visitors had a great opportunity to take the lead. A great move from Reece Taylor and Steve Hole saw the latter have a great opportunity in front of goal but Dan Jezeph made a fantastic save to keep it 1-1.
On 72 minutes all of Haughmond's great work in keeping City out was undone when they needlessly gave away a penalty. Liam Lockett was put through by Chris Withington wide on the right inside the box and as he turned he was tripped by George Carpenter when there seemed to be no danger. Lockett then stepped up to tuck home the penalty.
City's third came in the 86th minute when a Chris Withington ball deep into the Haughmond box was chased down by Liam Lockett who beat his defender before cutting back to Jordan Harrison who finished from 7 yards out.
City had one final chance in added time when Josh Willis' strike from the edge of the box was saved by Sam Jones and City claimed a 7th home win to move into 10th in the League table.
