There were extra presents all round as City came away from the Severn derby with all three points.
City under Craig Jones for the second time showed grit and determination to beat Swifts who were aiming to go top of the Midland Football league and in the process notching our first league away win of the season.
In blustery conditions which both sides struggled with in the opening exchanges, it was City who made the breakthrough in the 11th minute. A quick move involving Aaron Birch and Josh Willis saw the latters flick through to completely beat Andy Nicol but only into the path of the rapidly advancing Chris Withington who passed the ball from the edge of the box into the net past the outstretched keeper, Richards.
City then withstood a period of pressure from Swifts which saw Hanson shoot high and wide after great work from Fuller then Dan Jezeph tipped over a header from Watts.
The second half saw conditions improve as the wind dropped and City enjoyed a strong spell. Sean Brain forced an excellent save from Richards with a hard hit drive from just inside the box on 55 minutes, then on 60 minutes City thought they had extended the lead. A whipped in free kick from Jamie Smith was knocked forward at the far post by Andy Nicol into the path of Sean Brain who slammed home from close range, only for the Assistant Referee to have already flagged for handball.
Swifts then responded with a period of pressure which saw Bailey Fuller fire centimetres wide with a curling effort from the edge of the box, then minutes later he was involved again as Swifts drew level. A good team move saw Cordell pass from out wide to Bailey who skipped into the box, his cross was met by Watts but his blocked by Sam Hall only to fall into the path of Drew Canavan who finished from close range.
City had a penalty appeal turned down on 70 minutes when Josh Willis looked as though he had been upended in the box but the appeals were turned down. Then on 79 minutes, another good City team move saw Taylor Townsend's shot from just inside the box get diverted wide for a corner. The resulting kick was driven in by Jamie Smith and flicked on by Luke English then parried away by keeper Richards but only on to the head of Chris Sterling and into the path of Aaron Roberts who finished from close range.
City withstood the final ten minutes to earn the much needed win making it a pleasant short trip home for the strong travelling support.
