City continued the unbeaten start to the season and gained a first win in this Midland Football League game.
City once again created plenty of chances and it could have been more but an 11th minute penalty scored by Billy Shaw ended up being the only difference between the two sides. City were grateful that a late opportunity to draw level was headed well wide.
The first half saw plenty of chances but City's first clear chance was from the penalty spot which ended up being the winner after Chris Sterling was clattered inside the box, Shaw then sending the keeper the wrong way.
Chris Sterling thought he had extended the lead on 16 minutes after finishing from close range but his effort was disallowed for offside. Aaron Birch then fired wide from the edge of the box before Billy Shaw was sent clear one on one with the keeper who saved well. On 37 minutes City were denied a goal when Adam Jenkins pulled off a fabulous save from Billy Shaw's acrobatic over head kick, tipping the ball onto the bar. On the stroke of half time City then missed another glorious opportunity as Chris Sterling failed to finish from close range after Billy Shaw crossed from the left, his shot going straight into the arms of the keeper with the whole goal beckoning. Just before the break Casuals broke down the left and Oliver Waddison looked certain to score but pulled his shot wide.
The Second half was much the same for City, Billy Shaw's volley from 15 yards out thundered off the post before Aaron Roberts drive was cleared off the line. Later in the half Mati Klich drove forward but was denied by the keeper. The hosts improved as the game went on and created a couple of chances with their best coming with less than a minute to go. A cross from the right looked like it only needed a clean head but striker Gomes failed to make a solid connection and headed wide and City held on for all three points.
