City suffered a first defeat on the road in the league in an entertaining end to end game at Lichfield as both keepers pulled off a series of great saves, but City were again guilty of giving the ball away too easily.
City went into the game without an injured Chris Sterling & Sam Hall started on the bench so Josh Schuck and Archie Muirhead returned to the starting line up.
The hosts wasted a glorious opportunity after just 30 seconds with a well worked passing moved which resulted in a cross from the right wing which was cut out by Josh Schuck directly in to the path of Tom Brown, but he couldn't get a good connection on the ball which fell into the hands of City keeper Brendon Bunn. This was followed up by another chance, this time from a corner which was headed wide by Dan Lomas.
City had a couple of long range efforts from Billy Shaw and Chris Withington, neither of which troubled the Lichfield keeper James Beeson.
The breakthrough came on 21 minutes when the excellent Kyle Patterson set Jack Edwards through on the left, he cut inside before firing in on the near post from just inside the area.
Five minutes later City had a golden opportunity to draw level after winning the ball on the half way line, James Douglas sent a perfect ball through to Archie Muirhead but with the keeper rapidly advancing chose to take the ball around rather than getting a shot off, his touch let him down and the move broke down.
The game went from end to end with both sides creating chances. With City on the break down the left, the hosts won the ball quickly moving it down the right to Matt Dixon but his effort one on one was saved by City keeper Bunn.
The second half saw City look stronger as the game went on but the chances were equal for both sides. Sub Mati Klich saw his shot blocked just inside the box and the hosts broke forward and Reg Smith had another great opportunity but he was once again denied by Bunn.
Beeson was once again called into action after Chris Withington fed the ball to Mati Klich who turned well before bursting forward and getting off a tremendous shot off from 25 yards which was tipped over the bar and minutes later the outstanding keeper pulled off a brilliant double save to stop a certain goal from Dan Westwood.
The hosts then had their best move of the game which ended up with a shot from Kyle Patterson whose goal bound shot was tipped round the post by Brendon Bunn.
On 90 minutes with City on the attack in the hosts box, Dan Westwood was harshly adjudged to have fouled a defender and from the resulting free kick the ball was pumped forward into the path if Matt Dixon who slotted the ball past the advancing Bunn from the edge of the box to make it 2-0.
