City got February off to a good start with a 1-0 win on the road at Uttoxeter Town. It was a game of few chances and the decider came after just 15 minutes from the penalty spot.
With injuries throughout the squad City Boss Tim Harris was forced into changes once again with Fortune Maphosa and Billy Shaw both out injured and James Douglas, Bailey Fuller and Jamie Smith all on the bench.
With the game affected by a strong wind throughout the 90 minutes, both sides struggled to keep possession for long. In the 15th minute a driving run from Sam Whitton saw him work a one two with George Baker, taking the ball into the box only to be brought down in a clumsy challenge by Craig Swinfield, giving City a penalty. Reiss Taylor-Randle then steeped up to convert the penalty sending keeper Jack Tolley the wrong way.
City forced plenty of corners throughout the first half, all of which were dealt with easily by the home defence.
The second half saw James Douglas replace Will Gibbons and later Bailey Fuller for Reiss Taylor-Randle.
George Baker had a golden opportunity midway through the second half after great work down the right by Archie Muirhead saw his cross to the back post met by a free George Baker but he got under the ball and side footed it over the bar.
Curtis Smith had his best game for City with a good performance in the middle of the park helped to keep the hosts locked in a battle in the middle of the pitch and the only significant goal mouth action after the earlier George Baker chance, came late on when a long ball forward by the Uttoxeter keeper deep into the City box found its way to Paul Hughes who hit a goal bound shot from the edge of the box which was deflected towards the top corner only for Adam Harrison to make a fabulous save to keep the ball out. A flag from the linesman then went up for offside.
City then saw out the remaining added injury time minutes to claim a much needed win.
