City went down to a first league defeat since October after going down 3-1 at AFC Wulfrunians.
Despite a very bright start, City who were playing a first league game since December 18th were without Billy Shaw but completely dominated the first 25 minutes, after that it was the hosts who threatened most and thoroughly deserved their win.
City started off with several good moves which saw efforts from Archie Muirhead & Reiss Taylor-Randle and nearly took the lead in the 16th minute. After forcing a corner, Taylor-Randle's cross was met by Aaron Roberts on the back post, he had time to compose before unleashing a shot which was tipped onto the bar by keeper Hayward.
The opening goal came from City's third corner after 25 minutes. Again whipped in by Taylor-Randle, his cross was met by Ty Knight whose header looped to the far post and into the net to make it 1-0 to City.
The equaliser came within two minutes for the hosts. With City on the attack down the right, Wulfs won the ball back and rather too easily moved down their left to the edge of City's box to James Hill, he squared the ball to a completely unmarked Ty Knight on the right who had ample time to measure up his shot which he drilled past Adam Harrison.
City almost responded straight away after a superb run down the right hand saw Callum Debar cross to Will Gibbons whose looping header just went wide of the back post.
On 38 minutes Wulfrunians took the lead. After again winning the ball on the half way line they moved unchallenged through City's midfield, Jack Downey pushed the ball out to Ty Knight on the right and he rode a challenge before setting up Aaron Bishop on his outside, he cut inside before hitting a shot which deflected off the back of James Douglas and past a stranded Harrison to make it 2-1.
Two minutes later James Hill unleashed a 25 yard shot after Wulfrunians again moved easily through City's midfield, but his shot which beat Harrison, cannoned off the bar and out for a goal kick.
The half time break saw Fortune Maphosa and Dan Westwood introduced in place of Sam Hall & Archie Muirhead. City created a good opportunity after good work down the left by Taylor-Randle whose cross was met at the front post by Westwood but his first time effort went inches wide. Wulfrunians responded with another move down City's right which ended in a left footed strike from the edge of the box by Christopher Knight which beat Harrison but again hit the bar.
City had a great opportunity on 59 minutes when a shot from Dan Westwood just outside the Wulfs box was saved by Hayward however he was unable to gather the ball and Will Gibbons pinched it from under his body, managing to square back to WestWood who took a touch from close range, his shot was half blocked by Tom Ray and the ball rolled along the line and hit the far post, Bailey Fuller leapt on the loose ball but the angle was too tight and Jack Downey blocked his shot and out for a corner.
Despite a few good moves, City's passing was not at its usual high standard with too many going astray and possession given away too easily.
James Hill went close with a free kick for Wulfrunians before they finally grabbed a third. With City on the attack, the hosts won the ball back sending it long to Dominic Dell, he held the ball up well but was un challenged and had time to thread a ball through to Thomas Poole who had only been on the pitch a few seconds, he was pushed wide by the advancing Harrison and his shot trickled over the line from seven yards out.
City's afternoon was summed up in the final play of the game. A long ball forward by James Douglas from the half way line to Bailey Fuller who brought the ball down just inside the Wulfrunians box on the right. He then cut inside before squaring to Taylor-Randle whose shot was blocked on the line by Tom Ray, the ball cannoned off keeper Hayward back goal bound but Ray took a swing at the ball which went straight back into the arms of Hayward.
