City fell to a second defeat in 8 days against a fellow promotion chasing team as Boldmere St Michaels won 0-2 at Claines Lane. It was a lack lustre effort in parts in a performance which was similar to the defeat a week ago at AFC Wulfrunians and Boldmere took advantage with Alex McSkeane scoring a brace.
Curtis Smith replaced Callum Debar at right back, Fortune Maphosa joined Sam Hall at centre back and Dan Westwood and George Baker came in as City reshuffled with Will Gibbons and Reiss Taylor-Randle dropping to the bench as Tim Harris looked keep players fresh.
The visitors got off to a bright start and the opener came on 10 minutes as a long ball forward by Harry Craven found Sweeney on the left who crossed into the box which was smashed home on the volley by McSkeane. On 15 minutes Boldmere had another good chance as a ball sent over the top was taken on by Thompson-Brown but he lost his balance as he got his shot off and clipped the outside of the post. Then minutes later City were caught out again down the right hand side forcing Curtis Smith to bring down Sweeney just outside the box. The resulting free-kick taken by Thompson-Brown was tipped over the bar by City keeper Adam Harrison.
On the stroke of half time Lewis Archer was sent a ball deep into City's half before holding the ball up well & rather than laying off he beat three defenders before coming inside and unleashing a shot from just outside the box which was tipped round the post by Harrison.
The second half saw two changes for City with Reiss Taylor-Randle and Callum Debar replacing Curtis Smith and Ben Tilbury, immediately adding extra pace into the team, starting a bright spell. On 55 minutes, City cleared from a Boldmere corner and a bizarre 50 yard back pass from deep inside City's half saw Bailey Fuller sent clear down the right, he beat the advancing keeper and from almost on the touchline got in a goal bound shot which was kept out on the line by Lima who just made it back in time.
On 60 minutes good work down the right by Bailey Fuller saw him square a ball inside to George Baker but he couldn't get a shot of first time and Boldmere cleared. With City on top for a period the visitors sat back soaking up pressure and slowing the game down at every opportunity but looking to break out.
In the 74th minute a long ball forward by the Boldmere keeper was flicked on into the path of Sweeney whose cross who caught under the feet of Callum Debar but fortunately the ball fell the right side of the post and out for a corner. From the resulting corner, Harrison punched out for City who were unable to clear and the ball eventually fell to Thompson-Brown on the edge of the box who laid it off to McSkeane whose low shot from 18 yards out finally beat Harrison to make it 0-2.
The second goal took the sting out of City's fight back and the visitors comfortably saw out the rest of the game as they moved into third place on level points with Lichfield and AFC Wulfrunians on 41 points with City two points behind with 15 games to go.
