City made the short trip to Lye Town on Saturday, looking to continue the push towards the 2nd promotion place on a glorious afternoon of sunshine - Perfect weather for a football match.
Lye's first effort came on 17 minutes when striker Alex Cameron was played through the middle, but the Lye man lacked composure and his finish was wide of Adam Harrison's goal. This woke up City, in what was a very scrappy start to the game, with neither side taking control. On 22, James Douglas found space outside the area, but his shot was over and into the arms of the City fans stood on the bank behind the goal. Minutes later, George Baker burst down the left and crossed, but his pass was too high for Bailey Fuller at the far post.
On 37, Lye Town took the lead with a Ben Billingham strike into the bottom corner. A nice move on the edge of the City box found Billingham with space and his low drive crept past Harrison. Lye then almost doubled their lead just before halftime as a deep, arching cross surprised Harrison and bounced away off the top of the crossbar.
City boss, Tim Harris looked to shake things up at halftime with a double change. Halil and Fuller were replaced by Muirhead and Westwood, in an attacking move. The substitutions made a significant change to the flow of the game, with City pinning Lye Town back to the edge of their own area, with City having the majority of the ball. Efforts from both substitutes were comfortably saved by Lye keeper Ben Newey.
On 70 minutes, Harris made his final substitution, which saw the return of Billy Shaw, after a long stint on the sidelines, for George Baker.
After a nice piece of build-up play on 82 minutes, Westwood turned in the City box on his left foot, 7 yards from goal. Leaning back, the City striker's effort flew inches over. Only minutes later, Lye then doubled their lead. A long ball wasn't dealt with at the back and Jordan Davies broke clear. He stayed calm, rounded Harrison, and finished from a narrow-angle into the side netting.
City threw everyone forward for the final stages, but Lye held strong and picked up the points, doing the league double over City.
The Blue and Whites will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday (26th March), as we make the short trip to Bewdley Town.
