This was our last home league game of the season.

This was our last home league game of the season and the boys were playing for their places in the semi final of the cup next week. The pitch was prepared well and was surprisingly hard underfoot. All of the squad were made available today with a view to assessing their progress and to enable the whole squad to be together to celebrate winning the league at the end of today's game.

1st Quarter - A much changed line up saw Worcester start slow and with Yate dominating in most areas they broke forward and scored with a well taken goal. Worcester were under pressure most of this quarter with Yate settling in to the game but Worcester kept trying to play their football. From some strong tackling in the middle of the park the ball was sent forward by the Worcester midfield and a touch of brilliance saw Charlie fire over the Yate keeper from the edge of the box. 1-1

2nd Quarter - Worcester came out much stronger from the off and dominated this quarter. The defence were solid with Ben breaking up any Yate attacks. With Cam's creativity and Kane working well Worcester were always a threat and Yate's keeper pulled off a number of fine saves. A great quarter for Worcester. 1-1

3rd Quarter - This was a potentially testing quarter for Worcester with 3 of our defensive rocks sitting on the subs bench! The boys got down to the job in hand and pressed throughout with some lovely passing football. Yate continued to compete but mid-way Worcester got two quick goals from Owen and Kane. We kept our shape really well with the boys coping brilliantly with the unfamiliar line up. 3-1

4th Quarter - One of the advantages of taking a large squad, and no its not that it's turning me into a mathematician working out the minutes for everyone!, its that we were not tiring in any areas of the field. Yate were not so fortunate and having worked hard throughout the match were clearly tiring in this quarter. Worcester scored 4 goals in 10mins, Kane, Charlie, Cam and Kane. A great end to the season. 7-1

Yate have played some good football in the last two games and given Worcester 2 fantastic, competitive matches with great support from both their manager and fans and with a good summer behind them Yate will start next season strong.

As the manager of this team I am immensely proud of all the boys and their commitment throughout the season. To finish top of the table involved a great effort by all involved. We now need to keep focused to plan for a tough semi final next weekend!
