Today saw the U11's travel down the M5 to Beaversbrook Sports Facility for the JPL cup semi-final. The pitch itself was in perfect order but the weather conditions were a challenge with a strong wind blowing across the pitch.
BIC started the sharper team, passing the ball around and getting a feel for the pitch. Worcester soon got their momentum going and got into the game, gaining and maintaining possession. As the game progressed both teams were attack minded and closed each other down almost immediately which unfortunately didn't lend itself to attractive football. Worcester persevered and created a few half chances but the first half ended 0-0.
The 2nd half continued in the same style, both teams determined to get the goal. Approx 15 minutes in a loose ball in BIC's penalty area was picked up by Kane who had a shot at an almost impossible angle. The ball fired into the goal hitting the far inside of the net. 1-0 to Worcester. Worcester seemed to sit back following their goal and paid the price when BIC equalised within minutes. With plenty of strong tackles going in the game seemed destined for extra time as both teams struggled to keep any real possession. Then a long ball from defence by Tom was picked up by Kane and his sole, strong, determined effort saw him go round the defender and then around the BIC keeper who had come out to the edge of the box. Kane then took a look goalwards and fired the ball into the back of the net. 2-1 to Worcester. Worcester then stayed strong and organised and saw the game out to progress into the final.
Whilst this wasn't either teams finest game, Worcester should be proud with their effort and strength to have seen this game out to a victory.
