First win for Worcester

Worcester City were in seventh heaven after collecting their first victory of the season with an emphatic 7-1 win over Solihull Academy.

The hosts made a very strong start from the first whistle and after Harry Rebbeck and Jamie Hill had gone close, their domination was eventually rewarded when Jack Christie whipped a dangerous ball into the box for Kyle Shaw to steer home.

The second quarter began with City forcing several corners - one of which nearly resulted with the home side doubling their lead only for Alex Fenn's effort to hit the bar.

With Hill and the industrious Harry Stone working tirelessly in the Worcester midfield, it wasn't long until the second goal came as Saeed Khattak kept his cool to curl into the top corner from the right hand corner of the penalty box. The striker then showed great strength to calmly slot in his second shortly afterwards to put his side 3-0 up.

However they were disappointed to let Solihull back into the game with virtually the last kick of the quarter as the visitors skipped a couple of challenges on the right hand flank before switching play and scoring with a good shot from the edge of the box.

Decisive moments in quarter three saw the lively Shaw grab his second to restore the three-goal margin when he ran through from left midfield to finish with aplomb, whilst the visitors were reduced to 10 men after one of their players unexcusably kicked out and received a red card.

With their man advantage in the final quarter, Lewis Corbett made it 5-1 before Khattak took his goal tally to four with two stunning strikes from the edge of the box - the latter as he ran on to a delicious Shaw through ball to put the icing on the cake for his side.
