Match report by Scott Fenn

A blustery breeze dominated proceedings throughout as City were edged out 3-4 by Stoke RTC in this friendly encounter.

Both sides had early shots but it was the visitors who took the lead with a stunning strike from the right flank as their player showed great technique to net with a dipping half volley.

Harry Rebbeck nearly levelled proceedings when he ran onto a defence-splitting pass but his cross shot trickled just wide of the far post. However a near identical situation moments later saw him level matters when put through by Guy Collett to slot home.

With the wind in their favour for the first two quarters. Stoke regained the lead in Q2 when their forward controlled a cross from the left, span the defender and finished superbly. They then went 3-1 ahead with a goal that was very much assisted by the windy conditions.

City had a great chance to pull a goal back in Q3 with a one-on-one situation but the visiting keeper made a great block - one of several decent stops he made during the game.

Two goals behind going into the final quarter, it then became 2-3 as Ed Bowers followed up his own shot to tuck in the rebound.

However poor marking at a corner shortly afterwards enabled Stoke to regain their two-goal cushion as their free man at the back post had time to control and shoot in.

Ed Bowers grabbed his second goal with minutes remaining but Stoke held firm to win in the wind.
