Decent point from Bristol trip

City extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a decent performance and their first clean sheet of the season at South Gloucestershire RTC.

The scoreline finished 0-0 but the match certainly wasn't a bore draw as it was keenly-fought by both sides throughout although City probably created the best chances over the course of the contest and returned up the M5 with their confidence ever-growing.

On a wide 4G surface, South Glos looked composed on the ball and tried to use the flanks at every opportunity from the outset but City held them at bay as they gradually settled into the game. Indeed the best chance of the first quarter was created by the visitors as Billy Owen forced the home keeper into the first serious save - the hosts scrambling it out for a corner as no City players were able to react to the rebound.

There were alarms for Worcester when their keeper Josh Reed-Jones was forced to hobble off after a collision with an onrushing forward. His temporary stand-in Alex Fenn had only one catch to make as his team-mates kept him well protected before the keeper was able to return in quarter two when he dealt comfortably with a shot from distance as both sides continued to spar.

Q3 saw City press for an opening goal and going close on several occasions. The dangerous Owen had a couple of opportunities before the two Harrys combined - Stone feeding Rebbeck, who cut inside and shot wide.

The hosts then broke dangerously but shot over themselves. Moments later, the visitors so nearly took the lead when the South Glos keeper pulled off a stunning save from what would have been a deserved goal for Archie Thurston whose header from a corner was clutched on the line. Shortly afterwards, the keeper did well again to tip over a free-kick from Stone.

Both sides pressed in the final quarter, which began with Jamie Neath nearly working an opening for himself prior to two efforts from distance by Guy Collett and a good save by Reed-Jones at the other end.

In the final minutes, South Glos' striker burst through but was kept out by the impressive Oli Sheahan before City went close to snatching the winner with virtually the last kick of the game as hesitancy in the home defence almost presented Neath with an open goal but the ball just eluded him.

A solid point for City who now take a break from JPL action with Kidderminster Harriers up next in the Worcestershire FA Cup.
