Defensive lapses prove costly

City gifted Hereford three goals to lose a game which for the most part they dominated.

With Perdiswell waterlogged, the fixture was switched to a lunchtime kick-off on the 3G at Pershore with the hosts quickly out the blocks and pressing well. Following his rampaging run down the right wing in the opening minute, Harry Rebbeck forced the visiting keeper into an outstanding save moments later when he tipped his shot onto the bar.

At the other end, Oli Sheahan cleared off the line before City took the lead when Billy Owen fed Guy Collett, who took a touch and lashed home superbly from outside the box.

Owen almost turned provider in the final action of the quarter when his corner just eluded Collett but dropped to Archie Thurston whose effort was scrambled off the line and to safety.

Q2 began with City still on top as both Owen and the excellent Cian Sheehan shot over the bar. However with an important second goal eluding them, the home side were hit by a sucker-punch when they failed to deal with a free-kick as a Hereford player was given a free header to nod across the goalmouth, where his onrushing team-mate was allowed to tuck away the loose ball.

Seconds later, City were fortunate not to concede again but keeper Josh Reed-Jones did well to paw away the ball as the Hereford forward burst through and tried to go round him.

The third quarter was largely uneventful - City having the best chance of the period as Jamie Neath pickpocketed the opposing keeper but was just unable to reach Owen with his pass who looked certain to score with the net unguarded.

Neath set up Collett at the start of Q4 before disaster struck when a defensive mix-up from a goal-kick resulted in Hereford taking the lead.

The visitors then hit the bar from a free-kick before clinching the win when City failed to deal with another set-piece - this time a corner - as Hereford profited from sloppy marking.

City will wonder how they didn't take anything from this game but will hopefully have learned lessons to take into their next fixture.
