Hughes calls for more excellent backing...

CITY play host to Rocester on Saturday (kick-off 3.00pm).
Having battled out a single-goal victory over Lye Town last weekend before seeing Tuesday’s scheduled game at Stourport Swifts become the latest to fall victim of the weather, we’ll be looking to maintain our challenge amongst the leading pack.
Our opponents are struggling in 21st place in the table with 13 points to their name from their opening 20 League matches.
They have won one of their 11 League games on the road and slipped to a 2-1 reverse at Haughmond in their last game. City beat them 2-0 at their place at the end of October.
Joint manager, Lee Hughes, has called on the City faithful to turn up in good numbers to inspire us on to victory.
“To see a crowd of over 300 here for our last game was fantastic,” he said. “Hopefully this figure can continue to rise as we get towards the ‘business end’ of the season.
“Having such a large and vocal backing can help give us the edge in these battles that lie ahead and we’re going to need you right behind us again at the weekend as we take on a Rocester side who are battling for the points to help move them up the table.
“I expect them to come here and battle for everything, so we need to start on the front-foot and with purpose.
“It was a case of having to win ugly against Lye; I can understand the frustrations of the supporters, maybe we have made a rod for our own backs by playing some superb stuff at home this season, but no team is going to come here, roll over and make life easy for us.
“If anything they are going to raise their game playing in front of a bigger crowd than what they are used to.
“That said, I can’t remember Lye carving out any clear-cut chances in the second half, which is credit to our shape and determination.”
Come and show your support!
