Home to Harriers

Worcester City today played hosts to Kidderminster Harriers on the artificial pitch at Pershore as their normal home pitch was still waterlogged. The conditions were cold and damp, ideal for football.

Q1 – The first quarter was keenly contested with both sides being fully committed. Chances were limited, but Worcester took the lead after a fine diagonal through ball was played by Finn Syson who found Prince Henry and he calmly finished with a shot under the keeper. Almost straight from the kick off Finn Syson was again in the action and he placed an excellent shot from distance over the keepers head and into the top corner of the net. Shortly prior to the end of the first quarter, Kidderminster got back into the game following an error in the Worcester defence, which the Kidderminster forward latched onto and slotted home. (2-1)

Q2 – The second quarter started with Kidderminster enjoying more of the ball, but Worcesters nerves were settled when Joe Palmer controlled a poor clearance and fired a shot past the despairing keeper into the corner of the net. (3-1)

Q3 – The home team settled quickly and now started to control the game with some neat passing. Worcester were soon 4-1 ahead when Joe Palmer was put clean through, he went round the keeper although his shot which was going wide, fell to Charlie Barrett who scored from close range. A fifth goal soon followed, a well worked move culminated with a Finn Syson cross which was headed home by Tom Mills. Worcester increased their lead after a short corner was played into Tom Mills whose deep cross was initially cleared, but only as far as Tom Griffin who lashed his shot home from the edge of the area. (6-1)

Q4 – Worcester continued to dominate and Tristan Webby was unlucky not to score from a shot which hit the inside of the post and rolled along the line. Unfortunately the Kidderminster defender sliced his clearance, which ended up in his own net. Worcester went 8-1 ahead following a neat pass from Charlie Barrett and this time Tristan Webby scored with a low shot. Credit to Kidderminster who did not lie down and they reduced the deficit with a close range finish. The final goal in the game came almost on the fulltime whistle although this was probably the best goal of the game. The move started on the right hand side of the pitch, and after good wing play, the ball was played into the centre. From there, the ball was sprayed out to the left hand side and a pinpoint cross from Jacob Titheridge was met by Prince Henry whose low shot found the corner of the net, a great passing move with a fine finish. (9-2)

This was a good performance by the home side, who dominated for large periods, but credit to the Kidderminster lads who battled well and didn’t let their heads drop. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.
