Local Derby

Local Pride at Stake

Today we welcomed HPR to Worcester’s Malvern pitch. The pitch was firm which made the conditions difficult for both sides.

Q1 – Right from the kick off Worcester got into their stride and dominated the first quarter with some excellent passing football. Worcester’s midfield were strong and used the wings to great effect with both Ollie Berry and Tristan Webby delivering dangerous balls into the box. Worcesters dominance was rewarded with the opening goal of the game just before the end of the quarter when Tom Mills won a tackle in midfield. Tom played the ball out to Tristan Webby, Tristan then fed Prince Henry who beat his man and fired a hard and low shot which the keeper did well to save. Joe Palmer was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net from the ensuing rebound. 1-0

Q2 – Worcester continued in the same vein as the first quarter and again dominated possession with HPR struggling to get out of their own half. Worcester had a number of efforts on goal, and but for some smart saves from the HPR keeper and some missed opportunities, the game would have been far beyond HPR’s reach at the halfway stage. A second goal did follow, from a clearance which was charged down by Pierre Parkes, the ball fell kindly to Joe Palmer who finished smartly past the keeper and into the corner of the net. 2-0

Q3 – The third quarter was a more evenly contested affair with little battles breaking out all over the pitch, although the game was played by the players in a good spirit. Worcester thought that they had gone further into the lead when Tom Mills put the ball into the net, but the goal was ruled out for a challenge on the HPR keeper. Worcester had a further goal disallowed after a smart finish from Joe Palmer, although the linesman deemed that the ball had gone out of play in the build up, before Joe Palmer slotted past the keeper. 2-0

Q4 –Worcester continued on the front foot in the final quarter and pressed to increase their advantage. At the same time their defence remained resolute and snuffed out any hint of a HPR fight back, although HPR did have the ball in the net from a free kick which was ruled out for offside. 2-0

Overall, this was another dominant footballing display by Worcester who controlled the game for long periods and didn’t allow the away team to have a single shot on goal.

AWARDS : Gold – Joe Palmer, Silver – Tom Mills, Bronze – Zach Bowater
