Today we welcomed Nottingham Education FC on a beautiful sunny September morning.
Q1 – The game was a fairly even affair in the opening stages with neither side able to impose themselves and the only decent effort in the first quarter came from a Tom Griffin header that hit the bar off an Olly Berry corner. 0-0
Q2 – The second quarter was pretty much the same as the first and was a little bit of a “stale mate” although Tristan Webby went close to opening the scoring but his shot was deflected wide. Nottingham also went close when the homeside keeper, misjudged the bounce of the ball but was saved by the crossbar. 0-0
Q3 – The game exploded into action in the third quarter with Worcester now in the ascendancy and started to control the game for long periods. The deadlock was broken when a poor clearance from the Nottingham keeper found Tom Mills in space about 30 yards from goal. Tom controlled the ball and sent a fine shot over the keeper who made a desperate effort to save Toms shot, but it sailed into corner of the net. Worcester were unlucky not to add to their total when Olly Berry went clean through but the keeper saved well. 1-0
Q4 –The last quarter saw Nottingham in a determined mood and they equalised almost immediately from the kick-off following good wing play and a smart finish after a low cross into the box. This shook the homeside and Nottingham found themselves 2-1 ahead within a couple of minutes of the restart after a long ball troubled the Worcester defence and the Nottingham forward was on hand to smash the ball past the keeper. Worcester went close to grabbing a late equaliser when George Patey went close in the final minutes but Nottingham held strong. 1-2
This was not the best game of football and a spirited display in the final quarter saw Nottingham take the points.
