City went out of The FA Trophy as as Halifax scored five minutes from time to advance to the second round.
City did the majority of the attacking throughout the game but were unable to penetrate the Halifax defence who defended in numbers.
City were without George Williams following his sale to Barnsley and once again equalled their higher graded opposition throughout game and were on the front foot from the first minute with Sean Geddes going close.
Halifax keeper Matty Glennon was by far the busier keeper in the first half, twice making saves, one a drive from Ellis Deeney then he tipped over Daniel Nti’s shot after great build up play from City.
In the second half Glennon almost gifted City with an opener in the 62nd minute spilling Sean Geddes’ shot and just about gathering the ball at the second attempt.
Halifax went close seven minutes to go when Lois Maynard’s header hit the post and bounced off Nathan Vaughan to safety, then just two minutes later, Halifax broke the deadlock. Jacob Rowe threw himself in front of Boden’s effort but the rebound fell to the same player and he lashed the ball beyond Vaughan.
City's Cup exploits are over for another year but it has been a memorable few months.
