It was another day of Cup glory as City defied the odds for the second year in succession, this time defeating National League side Gateshead at The International Stadium.
A goal in each half from Deon Burton, with an equaliser in between by Ryan Bowman gave City the win and a deserved place in the First Round for the second successive year.
City were the better side throughout and could have scored more goals, but it was from corners where the biggest threat came from. The first goal came from an in swinging corner from Ellis Deeney on 24 minutes after Tyneside's debut keeper Shaun Macdonald had tipped over an initial shot, Deon Burton was quickest to react to prod the ball home.
Daniel Nti had a further chance after outpacing the Gateshead defence but he was unable to direct the ball home from a tight angle.
The Conference Side were restricted to the odd break, with their best first half chance coming from a Sam Minihan deflection.
The second half was much the same although The Tynesiders forced a small period of pressure, scoring from their first real opportunity After City failed to clear their lines Ryan Bowman was well placed to score from close range.
For the rest of the game it was pretty much all City. Five minutes after the equaliser City forced another corner which was again swung in by City skipper Deeney with Deon Burton getting the slightest of touches to ease the ball into the net sending the 130 City Fans who had made the long trip into dream land.
City had further chances, the best being an acrobatic overhead shot from Burton and the final moment of the match saw City Keeper Nathan Vaughan make a last gasp save.
