City´s unbeaten start to the season came to an end at a blusteryNetermoor Park as a 28th minute Danny Forrest header propelled Guiseley to a third straight win.
City faltered in their attempt to convert their dominant second half possession into clear cut opportunities and rarely threatened Steve Drench in th Guiseley goal, but did come close to getting an equaliser midway through the second half when Nick Wright clipped the outside of the post from inside the area.
The stubborn and well organised home defence played out the final few minutes with 10 men when Gavin Rothery was sent off for a second bookable offence after cutting down Connor Gater on the half way line.
Early in the game City threatened when a powerful run by Daniel Nti ended when he scuffed his shot wide after 17 minutes.
Guiseley, who City Manager Carl Heeley tipped to be near the top come the end of the season, took the lead after 28 minutes. The liveley Wayne Brooksby floated a deep cross to Danny Forrest who guided his header past Nathan Vaughan.
The Yorkshire side should have doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Forrest header wide from a Alex McQuade Cross.
Guiseley making the most of the swirling wind, threatened imediately after the restart when a shot from Forrest was acrobatically saved by Vaughan. City came closest when neat interplay by Danny Jackman and Nick Wright saw the latter free down the left before cutting inside and unleashing a powerful shot which clipped the outside of the post.
The perpetual City work rate was evident after a back pass from Gavin Rotherby was well anticipated by a charging Nick Wright who nipped in front of the Guiseley keeper but his first touch was just to heavy and the ball rolled out of play.
Guiseley nearly snatched a second against the run of play when Brooksby fired a low, well driven free kick that was tipped onto the post by Vaughan.
City were given a brief lifeline after Rothery was dismissed but Guiseley held out to claim all three points.
After the match City Manager Carl Heeley said, "The only criticism was that we did not work the keeper enough, particularly in the second half, but the positives are that we have evenly a matched a side that are going to be challenging at the top come the end of the season".
He added, "I thought we played well but the disappointment for me is to have 70% of the ball in the second half and not work the keeper enough. But credit to Guiseley, I thought they defended well and kept their shape but I thought it was a bit harsh that we got beat".
City will be looking to bounce back when Tamworth are the visitors to Aggborough on Saturday 23rd August followed by a trip to Brackley Town on Monday 25th August
