With Barrow in party mood on Non League Day & Sky Sports covering the match to see their new chairman Paul Casson officially take over from Brian Keen, it was a day set for an upset. With Darren Edmondson being awarded Manager of The Month for August the omen was set for a City victory.
The league leaders started slowly with City who saw Jacob Rowe replace Wayne Thomas in the centre of defence dominating the early exchanges. Danny Jackman had an early chance comfortably saved from the edge of the box. City kept the home crowd largely quiet for the first 20 minutes but that changed in the 21st minute. Neat passing play from the Bluebirds down City's left flank saw Jacob Rowe try to nip in front of Andy Cook who turned quickly to fire an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.
The 1731 crowd, Barrow largest of the season got what they wanted and for the first time in the game an upset moved a step further away.
City's best chances came late in the half when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box but Daniel Nti's shot went straight into the wall.
In the second half Barrow came out stronger but City had two early opportunities both from the same source. City were first awarded a free kick on the half way line and Ellis Deeney's cross beat everyone bouncing invitingly in the six yard box. Minutes later an identical ball was played in the from the right hand side, but again there was no one to get on the end of the cross.
Barrow had the better opportunities with Cook having two efforts from the edge of the box and Jason Walker also shooting narrowly wide whilst City had an Ellis Deeney corner headed off the line.
With the game completely opening up it always looked likely that City would get a chance but the Barrow defence stood firm to stay top of the table.
