Worcester City 2 Chorley 0

City produced another fine performance and possibly their best yet this season to defeat table toppers Chorley at Aggborough.

It was the third time in two weeks that City faced the top side and with one good win v North Ferriby & a tight defeat away at Barrow this looked on paper to be another tough game but City were rarely threatened to thoroughly deserve the three points.

City started with the same line up as in Tuesday nights win v Lowestoft Town and dominated the majority of the first half. The first decent chance came after 20 minutes when Sean Geddes through ball was flicked on by Mike Symons into the path of Daniel Nti, who was just beaten to the ball by the Chorley keeper Sam Ashton.

Within a minute another good City move saw Danny Jackman's cross from the left find Ellis Deeney just inside the box but his volley went over the bar.

Chorley offered little going forward whilst City's crisp flowing passing was finally rewarded after 31 minutes. The ball was worked down the right channel and Ellis Deeney collected from just outside the box to superbly curl the ball into the top left hand corner.

City continued to press but were unable to make the most of the possession. The next big chance came on the stroke of half time when a Sean Geddes free kick was acrobatically tipped over by Ashton.

In the second half City came out on full cylinders with Connor Gater nearly lobbing Ashton from the edge of the box but the ball fell inches wide and minutes later a Sean Geddes volley went over the bar. Another fine City move saw Daniel Nti find Wayne Thomas who volleyed over from just outside the six yard box.

Chorley first real chance of the game came 10 minutes into the second half when Darren Stephenson headed over from James Dean, who had been kept quiet by the strong City defence.

City had further chances within minutes. First Daniel Nti's shot was curling into the goal but was denied by another quality save from Chorley man of the match Ashton. From the resulting corner Jackman's corner was scrambled away with City calling for hand ball.

Chorley made two quick substitutions to improve their contribution to the game whilst City brought on Nick Wright for Danny Jackman on 73 minutes.

On 78 minutes Mike Symons who had caused problems all afternoon burst clear but his shot was again saved by Ashton and a minute later fine City defending denied Jack Dorney who was tackled by Wright just as he was about to shoot. Appeals for a back pass from the tackle were waved away by the referee.

On 80 minutes Daneil Nti was substituted for Tristan Dunkley who within minutes was on the score sheet. Chorley broke clear and were on the edge of City's box but a wayward pass was picked up by Sean Geddes on the edge of the box who quickly spotted Nick Wright in space down the left flank. His driving run to the byline was then followed up by a cross to Tristan Dunkley who finished from a yard out to make it 2-0.

The impressive and tireless Sean Geddes was replaced by Jacob Rowe after 88 minutes to see out the final few minutes and the game finished with Nathan Vaughan making a save from Lynch.
