City scored for the first time on the road this season and came away from Northolme with all three points against Gainsborough Trinity, but for the second time in a few weeks City had a player stretchered off.
George Williams was captain for the day with Ellis Deeney serving the final game of his three game suspension and he came away with a contender for goal of the season when he struck a thunderbolt after 10 minutes.
In the early stages Trinity hit the bar but for the rest of the first half it was City who dominated. The first goal came after a well worked move. Danny Jackman received the ball on the half way line finding David McDemott who spread the ball on the left wing to Tyler Weir, his cross was won by a defender contending in the air with Daniel Nti, but the ball dropped into the path of the incoming George Williams who fired an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net.
On 21 minutes Trinity were awarded a corner which City cleared but from the resulting ball played back in Mike Symons fell awkwardly, immediately calling for help. After a short break Symons was stretchered from the field.
Simon Russell was given a clear cut chance for Trinity on 26 minutes after a neat passing play, before firing over the bar then David McDermott was given a clear opportunity but his shot was deflected wide for a City corner. From the resulting corner which Trinity cleared, the ball broke out back into City's half to the ever impressive Danny Jackman who once again was at the centre of every City move. He passed to Nti and a quick passing move saw David McDermott flicking the ball onto Nick Wright who then found Sean Geddes who had drifted wide left into open space and with a one on one there was only going to be one winner, putting City two up.
City were then forced into a second change when David McDermott pulled up with a hamstring injury, to be replaced by Youth Loanee Jordan Murphy.
Minutes later it should have been three. Nathan Vaughan released Jordan Murphy wide on the left and his quick ball to Nti was then thread through to Nick Wright whose shot rebounded off the inside of the upright.
City went in at half time completely in control of the game.
The second half was a slightly more nervy affair with both sides getting plenty of chances and the wood work being hit on several occasions.
Sean Geddes pulled a shot wide from just inside the box early in the half then both sides were guilty of missing gilt edged chances before Trinity pulled one back 70 minutes.
City won a throw deep inside the Trinity half but the hosts broke clear in a well worked move which ended up with a Beesley shot on the overlap from the edge of the box. Nathan Vaughan was unable to hold onto the shot which fell into the path of substitute Connor Higginson who finished easily from two yards out.
The finally 20 minutes saw both sides hit the inside of the wood work when it seemed easier to score but on the balance of play and chances created it would have been unjust if City had come away with anything other than three points, City's first victory on the road this season and moving the team up to 8th in the table.
MIke Symons was later discharged from hospital with suspected ligament damage.
