Mike Symons came off the bench to rescue a point for City after going 2-0 down to two first half penalties at The New Windmill.
City went 1-0 down after 13 minutes. A Tyler Weir back pass fell short to Nathan Vaughan who upended Stefan Moore in the box. Fortunately for Vaughan, Moore was moving away from goal & Graham Hutchison and Jacob Rowe had covered behind to protect the goal which meant the City keeper was not the last man. Matt Dodd stepped up to score from the spot.
City failed to get the normal free passing going and were again punished after a defensive error. Tyler Weir marshalled the ball out expecting the throw in decision, but The Brakes got the break & took a quick throw in and as Dodd went into the box, he was bundled over by Jacob Rowe. The Referee had no hesitation in pointing to the sport, which Dodd again stepped up to convert to make it 2-0.
City sparked into life for the first time in the game and a Tristan Dunkley shot was saved by Morch, in the Leamington goal.
On 39 minutes City pulled one back. A Danny Jackman corner was cleared to the half way line & as Leamington cleared their lines George Williams sent a probing ball forward down the right flank which saw a 50/50 with Jordan Murphy & Matt Morch in the Brakes Goal. Murphy was quickest to stick out a foot and the ball looped over to hit the bar, but as the ball rebounded Murphy had the foresight to follow in and made no mistake from close range.
In the second half, City got into their stride, with Daniel Nti shooting over before forcing Morch into a save. Mike Symons replaced Dunkley making an immediate impact by holding the ball up. A decent City move was thwarted by the referee who obstructed Danny Jackman in a decent position allowing Leamington to break.
Sean Geddes came on for Danny Jackman on 65 minutes and on 72 minutes Nick Wright replaced Connor Gater.
City continued to press forward with chances for Geddes and Wright but just as it looked like City might be running out of time, Daniel Nti was put through the middle before being tripped by Joe Magunda, who was booked. The resulted free kick from Sean Geddes hit the wall, and was cleared by the Brakes, but City regrouped and after a good spell of passing moves, George Williams broke down the right wing,
his left footed cross to the back post was met by Mike Symons whose header thundered into the top corner to make it 2-2.
City almost snatched a winner in stoppage time after forcing a corner. Ellis Deeney's in swinging corner was met by the rising Daniel Nti who headed the ball down into the ground but agonisingly bounced over the bar.
City are next up at The Ricoh Arena v Coventry City in the First Round of The FA Cup on Sunday 9th November, 2pm Kick Off.
