Worcester City 0 Bradford Park Avenue 1

Bradford performed a smash and grab leaving City wondering how they didn't take all three points.

New signing Kyle Haynes made his debut at right back for City but despite a hatful of chances, most of which came in the first half, were unable to end the four game goal drought.

City's first real opportunity came when Mike Symons held the ball up and turned Jonny Lyman. He then managed to play a teasing ball to the back post which eventually fell to Ellis Deeney, whose deflected shot fell into the arms of man of the match candidate John Danby.

Bradford had their first chance of the game on the 15th minute mark when Ingleton escaped his marker, only for him to blaze over the bar.

City again began to pile on the pressure when Danny Jackman took the ball on in the box to try a curled shot at goal which rattled the crossbar. The rebound fell to Gater who couldn’t keep his shot from going over the bar.

After picking up on a loose ball, Jordan Murphy burst into Bradford’s box, only for his shot to be driven straight into the palms of Danby.
Symons throughout caused Bradford problems and his clever lob left Bradford’s shot stopper back peddling until he eventually grabbed the ball after two attempts.

Arguably the best chance of the half fell to match winner Chilaka, who volleyed the ball straight at goal from a Bradford corner. The number 11 was only denied from a falling Tyler Weir on the line, whose bravery kept the scores level at half time.

Just before the whistle for half time, Danny Jackman cleverly played a ball through to Jordan Murphy in the box. The young striker turned with his back to goal, and lashed a shot straight at the falling Danby. Tyler Weir then pounced on the clearance only to hit the ball into the stands.

The second half was very different to the first with both teams struggling to create opportunities from open play. Sean Geddes livened the opening of the half up with a fizzing long range effort that he watched just go over the bar.

Symons again used his strength and footwork to unravel the Bradford defence when he took on two defenders to put a back post ball over to Sean Geddes whose close range header was fantastically saved by the acrobatic Danby.

A late foul by Bradford’s striker Colley on Jackman certainly frustrated the City fans. The tall striker saw yellow but some would argue the play was worthy of the colour red. This reflected the encounter on a whole, as there was controversy throughout.

After the 65th minute mark, City looked to have taken their foot off the gas as Bradford started to control the play more. However, for a long period of the game Worcester’s defence, led by Wayne Thomas were equal to everything.

Nick Wright was Worcester’s first change after Tyler Weir had to limp off, leading for Heeley to move Jackman to left back. Nathan Vaughan pulled of a great save to keep Worcester level shortly after, when Colley cut inside and hit a hard shot to near post. Vaughan managed to claw it out after a second attempt.

The winner came on the 74th minute mark when Grey ran to the right corner and whipped in a clever ball for Chilaka to head home. The relegation battlers certainly enjoyed their goal and were delighted to have shocked City at Aggborough. Bradford performed the definition of ‘smash n grab’.

Dunkley and Nti were thrown on in the later stages to try and salvage a point with more fire power, however after some brave defending from the visitors Worcester were going to leave Aggborough without a goal. Hutchison and Geddes came close from set pieces at the very end but it ended 1-0 to the visitors.
