City return empty handed

It was always going to be a tall order, facing three of the top five within the space of two weeks and that proved to be the case as City fell to a 2-0 defeat in Lincolnshire.

City battled throughout, going in at the break 1-0 down after Mark Jones headed Boston into the lead and were still in with a chance of getting something out of the game up until the 88th minute when Dayle Southwell added a second. It would have been tough on the Pilgrims if City had pulled back, with Ryan Boot making several excellent saves to keep City in the game.

Boston went into an early lead on 8 minutes after Dayle Southwell crossed to Mark Jones, whose excellent header was too good for Boot. Minutes later Boot was on call again, reacting quick to close down the advancing Southwell.

On 24 minutes, Kaine Felix's cross was turned goal bound by Jones which Boot saved with his feet, the ball rebounded to Southwell who headed against the bar & the ball dropped into the path of Jake Sheridan who blasted high over the bar when a tap would have sufficed.

Boot was again called into action making another stunning save from Carl Piergianni on 29 minutes and Boston should have been out of sight with the missed chances.

The second half saw Aaron Brown replacing Mike Symons on 58 minutes, but within a minute The Pilgrims had another great chance and another excellent save from Boot, who saved a Southwell drive.

Tristian Dunkley replaced Jay Denny and City pushed forward getting considerably more of the ball than in the first half but it was Boston who were still making the best chances, with Nicky Walker thundering the ball against the cross bar.

City forced a corner on 84 minutes, but Daniel Nti was unable to direct Sean Geddes's cross then in the 88th minute Boston sealed the points. Boston broke out to the edge of the City box, Anthony Charles challenged Southwell but then lost ball to the Pilgrims striker just inside the 18 yard line, this time making no mistake to strike into the bottom corner.

A tough three games for City moving into the final month of the season with the final six games all against teams in 14th position and below.
