City played for 65 minutes with 10 men after Aaron Brown was sent off early in the first half but produced a determined performance to claim a point against promotion chasing Guiseley.
With Jonathan Lynch coming in for Shabir Khan there were no other changes to the side that drew 3-3 at Chorley on Saturday.
It was an end-to-end start to the game with Sean Geddes going close from the edge of the box but unable to put enough curl on the ball which sailed over the bar. At the other end Jake Lawlor shot wide from Ryan Toulson’s long throw-in.
City knew it would be a test, but that was about to become harder when Aaron Brown brought down Wayne Brooksby just outside the box. The Referee adjudged it to be a goal scoring opportunity and Brown was sent off. The resulting free kick from Liam Dickinson was sent over the bar from 25 yards.
The loss of Brown seemed to spur City on and on 31 minutes Tristan Dunkley battled well down the left wing to win a corner. Sean Geddes’ delivery was perfect for Mike Symons to flick a header into the far corner to give City the lead.
Guiseley had chances of their own before half time as Dickinson twice shot wide when well placed and Ryan Boot saved from Brooksby.
In the second half Guiseley pressed forward and a period of pressure resulted in the equaliser on 63 minutes. Danny Lowe did well to cross out on the left which substitute Nicky Boshell headed back across goal, the ball hit Dickinson and fell perfectly to Boyes who had the simple task of firing into the back of the net.
City were hanging on at times but fought out on several occasions looking for a winner of their own but it wasn't to be and the score ended 1-1.
A thoroughly determined performance from City to take a well earned point,
