Two first Half minutes were to cost City dearly in this Vanarama National League North opening home game of the 2015/16 Season.
City, who started with the same line-up as on the opening game of the season at Gainsborough, conceded goals in the 21st and 23rd minutes and despite a second half fightback were unable to grab the equaliser.
On seven minutes, Ellis Deeney's whipped in corner evaded James Belshaw in goal for Tamworth but a diving Kieran Morris was unable to get on the end of it.
The first twenty minutes was an even encounter with neither team really threatening the opposing goal but that was to quickly change in the space of two minutes.
Tamworth cleared from the back with Daniel Newton flicking the ball into the path of Shane Clarke on the edge of the box. His looping shot was too good for Nathan Vaughan, giving The Lambs a 0-1 lead.
It was to get worse for City as in their next attack it was 0-2 to Tamworth. Kieran Morris lost the ball inside City's 18 yard box, but his tackle to get the ball back fell kindly for Elliott Durrell who passed the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
City looked like they could be over-run prompting the introduction of Connor Gater for Kieran Morris on 33 minutes.
The second half was to end with Tyler Weir and Curtis Strong leaving the pitch after a clash of heads from a rash challenge by Strong, with both players receiving bad cuts. Ashley Vincent replaced Weir for City.
The second half saw City start a fight back. Nit and Deeney both had long range efforts, but neither caused any problems for Belshaw.
City continued to press with Tamworth happy to soak up the pressure breaking out on the counter attack. City's next big chance came on 73 minutes with Clayton McDonalds header being cleared off the line and Connor Gater's follow up being charged down.
City eventually pulled one back on 78 minutes. A fine run down the right wing by Daniel Nti ended with his cross being bundled over the line at the second attempt by Ryan Rowe, his second in two games.
Tamworth broke out on 89 minutes with Alex Gudger making a saving block to deny Sean Wilkins.
On 90 minutes another Nti cross from the right wing was turned goal bound by debutant Jamie Spencer but Belshaw was correctly placed to save.
With 4 minutes added, City were unable to get the equalizer and despite an even game, two first half minutes were to be the decider.
