City take point at Khalsa

City returned to action following that 6 v 1 drubbing by Westfields by getting a decent point away at Sporting Khalsa, but it could have been so much more.

New signings Grant Horton, Kaoui Attoumani and Jamal Lawrence all lined up for their first starts in a City shirt with Manager, John Snape ringing the changes, those that saw Jordan Stoddart and James Baldwin dropped to the bench, Chris Withington and Joel Caines not even named in the 16 man squad and of course following his red card, Dan Jezeph away from all Football Activity.

So to the game, and at 3pm the what looked like a decent day saw the heavens open and change the way both teams played their football. Long balls were simply not working with the ball skipping up off the slick 4G pitch.

A fairly quiet first 15 minutes went by and then the action began, Meese on the 19th minute was on hand following a close shot stop by Gilder which rebounded to the feet of Meese who made no mistake. 1 v 0 Khalsa.

No further chances fell for either Club in the first half, lots of huffs and puffs but no clear cut chances.

And so the 2nd half came and it appeared City were the better team and starting to take control. Attoumani in the 56th with a great bit of break up play, he then fed the ball into the feet of Jamal Lawrence who took on 3 or 4 Khalsa players using fantastic strength in the process, broke free and beat the goalkeeper with a low drive 1 v 1.

Changes then started to be made with the injured Harrison coming off for Baldwin. A number of close calls where Baldwin was given offside but seemingly City supporters believed he was onside.

But then in the 81st minute, a sublime through ball by Lockett to Baldwin, he used his pace to beat the keeper to the ball, round him and slot home. City just 9 minutes from a great 3 points against a top of the table rival.

But Khalsa had other ideas and every opportunity they used the wind to their advantage and also their big men and sure enough a cross into the box, not dealt with by the City defence, the Khalsa man had time to bring the ball under control and pass into the net past the reach of Sam Gilder.

So, a good point gained or two dropped ?
